Paedo Shahid Hussain Caught After Five Years on the Run – Faces Deportation

Shahid Hussain Jailed for Historic Child Sex Attack

Shahid Hussain, 48, a Pakistani national from Tinsley, Rotherham, has finally been sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court. The man, found guilty of indecent assault, will be deported once he serves his prison term.

Hussain Groomed 14-Year-Old Girl, Assaulted Her in Dark Alley

In July 2018, officers from the National Crime Agency’s Operation Stovewood – investigating historic sexual abuse in Rotherham – charged Hussain. He groomed a 14-year-old girl by giving her gifts, alcohol, and rides in his car. Known to the victim as “Shammy,” Hussain lured her away from friends, pushed her to the ground, and indecently assaulted her in a secluded spot.

On the Run for Five Years After Skipping Court

After being charged, Hussain skipped his Sheffield Magistrates Court hearing in August 2018. The NCA tracked him down, discovering he fled the country. A European Arrest Warrant was issued. Five years later, Bulgarian police nabbed him trying to cross from Turkey at the Kapitan Andreevo border on 26 November 2023.

Justice Served – NCA and CPS Praise Victim’s Courage

Hussain was extradited back to the UK and jailed. NCA Senior Investigating Officer Stuart Cobb said, “I’m pleased Hussain has finally faced justice for a crime committed 21 years ago. The victim’s bravery has been crucial throughout.”

Specialist Prosecutor Martin McRobb added, “Hussain’s conviction sends a clear message: sex offenders who run won’t escape justice. We work with international partners to bring perpetrators to court.”

Operation Stovewood: The Nation’s Biggest Rotherham Abuse Probe

Operation Stovewood has uncovered over 1,100 victims of abuse in Rotherham dating from 1997 to 2013. So far, 37 offenders, including Hussain, have been convicted. More than 50 active investigations continue.
