Firefighters Tackle Blaze at Flat Conversion in Kensington

 

A fire broke out early Friday morning at a house converted into flats on Marloes Road in Kensington, prompting a significant emergency response.

Incident Details

The fire damaged part of a ground-floor flat, with six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responding to the scene. The London Fire Brigade was alerted at 1:04 AM, and crews from Kensington, Chelsea, Paddington, and Hammersmith stations were dispatched. The fire was brought under control by 2:03 AM.

Rescue Efforts

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the building using an internal staircase. She was treated on-site by London Ambulance Service.

To assist in tackling the fire, a 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed as an observation tower, enabling crews to monitor and manage the situation from above.

Cause of the Fire

The fire has been deemed accidental, caused by textiles placed too close to a halogen light, which ignited.
