Emergency services scrambled at 8.18am this morning following reports of a person in the water at the River Lea, Canning Town. Concerned members of the public called in after spotting someone struggling near the River Lea Service Bridge.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed:

“We were called at 8.18am today. Our crews are currently at the scene providing assistance.”

Rescue teams have sealed off the area around the River Lea Service Bridge. A safety cordon remains in place as searches continue. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the location to let emergency workers operate freely.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

The Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent appeal for anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward. Witnesses are asked to contact the police on 101 immediately.
