Search Launched After Reports of Person in the Water at River Lea, Canning Town

Overview

Emergency services launched a major search operation this morning after reports of a person in the water at the River Lea in Canning Town.

The alarm was raised at 8.18am when members of the public reported seeing someone in the water near the River Lea Service Bridge.

Rapid Response by Emergency Services

A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesperson said:

“We were called at 8.18am today (30 July) to reports of a person in the water at River Lea Service Bridge, Canning Town.

We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, a paramedic in a fast response car and paramedics from our hazardous area response team.

Our first paramedics arrived on scene in three minutes. Our crews assisted our emergency services partners at the scene but were later stood down.”

Ongoing Search Efforts

The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade are believed to be continuing search efforts in the area. It has not yet been confirmed whether the person was located.

A cordon remains in place near the River Lea Service Bridge as searches continue, and the public has been asked to avoid the area to allow crews to work safely.
