Dark Web Grenade Buyer On The Run After Conviction
Attempted Bomb Buy on Dark Web
Mohammed Humza, 26 at the time, tried to buy two grenades off an international seller on the dark web in July 2016. Using Bitcoin, he attempted to pay but listed a different delivery address to dodge the authorities.
Despite never completing the order, Humza kept contacting the seller, asking about more grenades, explosive materials, and even a detonator fuse.
Police Strike and Seizure
Officers from the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) arrested Humza at his home in November 2016. They seized several electronic devices which revealed dark web searches for ‘F1 Grenade’ and login details for the accounts used.
Conviction and Manhunt
Now 29, Humza was convicted of possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose under the Explosive Substances Act 1883. He pleaded not guilty but skipped court during his trial, which went ahead without him.
Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Davidson said: “This has been a lengthy investigation involving international partners. Although no explosives were delivered, the evidence made Humza’s intent undeniable. We now urge anyone who spots him to contact police immediately.”
On the Run
Humza, described as 5’8”, Asian and of medium build, has connections in Watford, Birmingham, Luton, and London. Police are actively searching for him to enforce sentencing.
