Salon boss Alan Luckhurst spared jail despite multiple sexual assault convictions
Surrey hairdresser convicted of abusing young apprentices
Alan Luckhurst, 36, from Worcester Park, Surrey, was found guilty of eight counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing sexual activity without consent at Kingston Crown Court on 26 January 2023.
Six-month suspended sentence and strict restrictions
On Monday 27 March, Luckhurst was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He also received a sexual harm prevention order banning him from employing or managing anyone under 18.
Victims brave enough to come forward
- In 2017, a 17-year-old apprentice reported that Luckhurst assaulted her during a placement at a salon in Twickenham.
- He was arrested, removed from the salon, and charged in October 2019 after a Met Police Child Abuse Investigation Team probe.
- Despite being on bail, Luckhurst opened his own salon in Kingston.
- In 2021, another 17-year-old apprentice accused him of assault, claiming it happened just weeks after she started working there.
Luckhurst denies allegations but evidence tells another story
Luckhurst tried to dismiss the accusations, claiming he was just “tactile” and at one point was demonstrating a head massage.
Detective Constable Natalie Alchin said: “Luckhurst abused his position as manager, taking advantage of being alone with young women at work. The offences have profoundly impacted their lives. The victims have shown tremendous courage coming forward and testifying.”
“We believe there may be other victims. We urge anyone affected to contact us. Support is available.”
