PC Punches Back After Brutal Attack in Slough
PC Katie McGloin showed serious grit when a motorist punched her in the face and tried to make a run for it during a routine stop in Slough back in April 2019.
After pulling the man over in a quiet cul-de-sac, McGloin spotted him clutching a can of lager before he bolted towards nearby houses. Despite the punch that landed squarely on her jaw, she chased him through a maze of gardens, determined not to let him escape.
Heart-Stopping Chase Through Gardens and Over Fences
The suspect dashed through a family’s garden, hurdling fences while PC McGloin kept up the relentless pursuit. He swung at her again, landing a hard punch, but she grabbed his belt to try and haul him back.
He slipped free and darted onto a busy road, even wading across a river to try to shake her off. Undeterred, PC McGloin followed waist-deep through the water, calling out his car’s registration to help backup find them.
Taser Shock and Physical Fight to the Finish
When warnings didn’t stop him, McGloin fired her Taser — twice. Even then, the man ripped the probes out and kept fighting. With no other options, she wrestled him to the ground, ending the struggle with capsicum spray.
“I just didn’t want to let him win,” McGloin said. “It was stubbornness and determination — I wasn’t going to back down.”
Justice Served: Offender Jailed for Assaulting Officer
The man was charged with assaulting an emergency worker, driving while disqualified, and no insurance. He pled guilty and was locked up for 42 days.
Thames Valley Police Federation Chair Craig O’Leary praised McGloin’s bravery, saying: “Katie represents the very best of our officers, charging towards danger to keep the public safe. She was relentless — there was no way this guy was getting away.”
PC McGloin is set to be honoured at the Thames Valley Police Federation Bravery Awards ceremony on September 9th. The event, supported by JRM Mortgage Solutions, celebrates exceptional courage within the force. Follow the action with #TVPFedBravery.
