25 Years On: Hunt Goes On for Pub Killer of Electrician Dad
It’s been 25 years since John Kennedy, 31, was viciously stabbed to death inside The Railway Arms pub on Sutton Street, E1. The attack happened just before 6am on Saturday, 8 February 1997.
Electrician and Footballer Murdered in East London Pub
John, a self-employed electrician and local footballer, was enjoying a night out with friends, hopping between pubs before arriving at The Railway Arms around 3am. About 60 people were inside when a suspect confronted John. The argument turned violent, ending with John being stabbed.
As John collapsed, the attacker, joined by another man, fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.
Family Pleads for Justice After Quarter Century
“We would like to appeal for witnesses to come forward with any vital information regarding John’s senseless murder back in February 1997,” a family spokesperson said. “Please help us finally get justice for our loved one, who is forever missed and will never be forgotten.”
They added: “Many witnessed this murder but stayed silent due to misguided loyalties or codes of conduct. John’s life was stolen, and the killer must be held accountable. After 25 years, please do the right thing and come forward.”
Police Offer £30,000 Reward for Killer’s Capture
Detective Inspector Kevin Prosser urged those with information to break their silence. “Many have chosen not to speak for 25 years. We hope someone will now come forward and tell us what they saw and who is responsible,” he said.
The Metropolitan Police are offering up to £30,000 for info leading to the arrest and prosecution of John’s murderer.
