Kent Police Heroes Save Life in Off-Duty Drama
Three Kent Police call handlers turned real-life lifesavers after stumbling on a serious crash while off duty. Lucy, Abi and Amber, all from the Kent Police Force Control Room (FCR), sprang into action on Tuesday 4 January 2022 in Gillingham.
Quick-Thinking Trio Respond to Shocking Crash
Just before 5pm, the friends came across a 70-something pedestrian unconscious after being hit by a car on the busy Hoath Way dual carriageway. Passersby were already helping, with one performing CPR and others trying to control traffic.
Lucy, trained in first aid and a former lifeguard, took over CPR until paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service arrived. She stayed with the woman until she was rushed to hospital.
Protecting the Victim’s Dignity and Safety
Meanwhile, Abi and Amber worked tirelessly to secure the dangerous accident scene. With the woman lying in a fast lane, they used a large scarf to shield her from onlookers and preserve her dignity – while also shielding traumatised members of the public.
Life-Threatening Condition, But Hope Remains
The pedestrian was taken to a London hospital in a life-threatening state but is now conscious and steadily recovering.
“Lucy, Abi and Amber were not only brave, but they were also professional and compassionate,” praised Chief Inspector Lee Cheesman. “They absolutely embodied Kent Police values by doing the right thing and putting vulnerable people first. I am incredibly proud of them.”
The heroic off-duty trio face no doubt, just a heap of thanks for saving a life and handling a high-stakes emergency like the professionals they are.
