Burglar Sentenced After Terrifying Home Invasion With Child Inside
Steven Fitton, 39, of Willinton Road, Knowle, was handed a hefty jail term at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, 21 December. He was locked up for two years and four months for breaking into a home where a young child was sleeping.
Violent Break-In Shocks Neighbours
On the night of 11 October, Fitton kicked down the front door of a house on Torrington Avenue at around 10pm. Inside, a woman and a young child were asleep when he barged in demanding to know where the cash was hidden.
Additional Sentences for Breach and Theft
Fitton also picked up an extra two weeks behind bars for breaching a court order and committing theft, after pleading guilty at Bristol Magistrates’ Court in October.
Police Condemn Fitton’s Reckless Crime
“I cannot imagine how frightening the incident must have been for this young family,” said PC Ashley Russell, the investigating officer. “To have the safety of your own home shattered by a selfish offender such as Fitton is inexcusable. I hope this sentence reassures the victims that this man is now off the streets.”
“Our specialist burglary team acted quickly, with Fitton arrested, charged, and appearing in court just days after the crime.”
