Newhaven’s West Beach Set for Massive Makeover

Lewes District Council has given the green light to a bold redevelopment project on Newhaven’s West Beach promenade. The £multi-million scheme aims to transform this tired stretch into a buzzing hotspot for locals and tourists.

What’s Coming to West Beach?

  • A brand-new 378m² restaurant to tantalise taste buds
  • State-of-the-art outdoor gym for fitness lovers
  • Dedicated children’s play area packed with fun
  • Improved pedestrian links for easier access
  • New toilets featuring a Changing Places facility
  • Additional green open spaces for chilling and socialising

These features will boost West Beach’s appeal, drive footfall, and strengthen the local economy.

Council Leader Hails “Irresistible Wow Factor”

“This is a landmark development that will create an irresistible wow factor in Newhaven, attracting visitors from far and wide and providing a massive boost to the local economy,” said Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council.

Nicholson added the project fits into a wider reinvention of Newhaven:

“Alongside the transformation of Newhaven Square, a new health hub, progress on the fish processing plant, and the reinvention of The Marine Workshop, amongst many cultural, sporting, and social projects, we’re witnessing a vibrant renaissance across Newhaven. Lewes District Council is proud to lead the charge.”

Big Changes Ahead

The facelift will see existing buildings demolished and the entire promenade extensively landscaped. Footpaths linking the town centre with the waterfront will be upgraded to offer seamless pedestrian access. With brand-new amenities and fresh public spaces, West Beach promises a fresh, inviting waterfront for everyone.
