Retired Nottinghamshire Cops Brave War Zone on Christmas Toy Run
Two ex-Nottinghamshire Police officers have taken a festive stand in war-torn Ukraine. Simon Blincow and Rob Taylor joined a convoy hauling vital supplies and children’s toys to bring some Christmas cheer and hope amid the chaos.
Toys, Coats and Crucial Aid Delivered to Ukrainian Kids
The duo visited Ridni children’s home in Lviv, western Ukraine, handing over 80 winter coats, crayons, cuddle toys, sketchbooks, and Lego to youngsters displaced by Russia’s brutal invasion.
The convoy, packed with pick-ups, ambulances, generators, and clothing, will now push deeper into eastern and southern Ukraine to aid ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Ex-Sergeant’s Fourth Mission Fueled by Heartbreak
Simon, a former roads policing sergeant, said the shocking footage of devastation pushed him to act. “Like everyone, I was moved by the scenes and wanted to put my experience as an officer to good use,” he explained.
“Ukraine is desperate for ambulances, pick-ups, and 4x4s to support relief work in the east.”
Simon has already made three previous trips with former officer Martin Foster. All three men plan more journeys throughout 2023.

Simon praised the overwhelming support from Nottinghamshire Police colleagues. “Current and former officers have donated items, which we collected and passed on,” he said.
“The children’s smiles when receiving a simple crayon or book really pulled at the heart strings.”
