Roberto de Zerbi to quit Brighton after final Premier League clash with Man United

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi is set to wave goodbye after the Seagulls’ last game of the season at home to Manchester United on Sunday. The Italian tactician’s exit marks the end of two landmark years on the South Coast.

Emotional farewell from de Zerbi

In a heartfelt message, de Zerbi revealed his sadness at leaving Brighton. “I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished,” he said. “Our amazing fans and the entire club have been incredibly supportive.”

Two seasons of historic highs

De Zerbi took over in September 2022 after Graham Potter’s switch to Chelsea. He immediately boosted Brighton to their highest-ever Premier League finish – a stunning sixth place – clinching a spot in the Europa League. The Seagulls made it to the last 16 on the European stage.

Despite the Europa adventure, Brighton currently sit 10th in the Premier League. A win against Man United at the American Express Stadium would confirm a top-10 finish. But a draw or loss could see them slide to 11th.

Future plans remain uncertain amid speculation

Rumours have swirled around de Zerbi’s next move, with big clubs linked to the Italian. In March, he commented on his contract talks: “We didn’t find an agreement. While the contract is important, the bigger focus is on our long-term plan. Discussions with the club are ongoing.”

Manchester United supporters see de Zerbi as a possible replacement if Erik ten Hag leaves following a poor season. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on securing his talents for their managerial vacancy.

Brighton say thanks for the memories

As de Zerbi prepares to exit, Brighton fans will recall his exciting, attacking football and historic achievements during his time in charge. His legacy at the Amex Stadium is one of progress and thrilling play.
