Man Admits Manslaughter After Brutal Abuse of Vulnerable Victim

A man has confessed to manslaughter following a Met Police investigation into the violent death of a vulnerable man. Detectives uncovered a terrifying spree of abuse that ended with the victim’s death on 29 January 2024.

Weeks of Brutal Abuse Uncovered

Fawehinmi subjected Dimitrios, known as Jimmy, to relentless violence and intimidation over several weeks. Met detectives pieced together the harrowing timeline by gathering hundreds of witness statements and analysing CCTV footage. Their evidence showed Fawehinmi’s campaign of cruelty, exploiting Dimitrios to deliver drugs and forcing him into inhumane living conditions.

Detective Superintendent Speaks Out

“I cannot imagine the pain Dimitrios suffered in the final weeks, living in fear and under the control of a violent bully,” said Detective Superintendent Kelly Allen. “Fawehinmi’s claim of self-defence is a coward’s excuse. He preyed on the vulnerable for his own gain. His conviction won’t erase the suffering, but hopefully brings Dimitrios’s family some justice. Thanks to courageous members of the public who helped bring this dangerous man to justice.”

Horrific Living Conditions and Final Days

  • Dimitrios was forced to work long hours delivering drugs across Essex.
  • He lived in filthy conditions, sleeping in a garage surrounded by dogs.
  • On 26 January, badly beaten and barely alive, Dimitrios was left locked in a flat in Hackney.
  • By the time Fawehinmi returned three days later, Dimitrios had died.

Attempt to Flee Foiled by Police

Fawehinmi tried to cover his tracks by booking flights to Nigeria and misleading his father about discovering a dead body. His father reported the alarming call to police.

Officers found Dimitrios’s body at the Hackney flat. Fawehinmi was arrested on 30 January by the M11 with a car full of suitcases. Forensics found Dimitrios’s blood inside the vehicle.

Met Police Deliver Ruthless Justice

This chilling case highlights the Met’s relentless commitment to protecting Londoners and ensuring those who commit violent crime face justice. Fawehinmi now faces a significant prison sentence for his brutal actions.
