A reckless 17-year-old driver from Stoke-on-Trent has been locked up for six and a half years after a fatal crash that claimed the life of another teenager.
Harley Hough’s High-Speed Disaster
On Friday 17 October last year, Harley Hough, 17, from Longton, was speeding in a BMW 1 Series on Dawlish Drive, Bentilee. Attempting a dangerous overtake, he hit 17-year-old pedestrian Alex Woodward, who was crossing the road at the time. Alex was rushed to hospital but tragically died early the next day, on Saturday 18 October 2025.
Hit-and-Run and Shocking Confessions
Rather than stop, Hough drove off from the scene. He only handed himself in two days later. Police say he admitted to driving without a licence or insurance and claimed he did not know the local speed limit. He faced multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, and driving without insurance. 
Justice Served at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court
Today (Tuesday, 14 April), Harley Hough was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. He will spend six and a half years behind bars for his reckless actions that cut a young life short. The victim’s family and the local community are left mourning the tragic loss and hoping this serves as a stark warning about the deadly consequences of dangerous driving.
