Imran Habib, 28, from Forest Gate, has been sentenced to one year in prison after leading police on a high-speed chase at up to 90mph through Redbridge before crashing his Audi A4. The incident occurred on a 50mph road where Habib, who had been freed from custody just 11 weeks prior, sped through lanes after spotting marked police cars responding to another incident. Believing the officers were targeting him, he panicked and fled the scene.
High-speed Pursuit
Habib’s reckless driving saw him weaving through traffic in a 50mph zone, prompting police to chase him. The pursuit was short but dangerous, reaching speeds far above the limit.
Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles
The Audi eventually collided with two cars — one carrying a three-month-old baby — and a motorcyclist. The crash caused significant alarm but details of injuries have not been disclosed.
Escape And Arrest
Following the crash, Habib attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by police approximately 20 minutes later.
Court Outcome And Driving Ban
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Habib admitted dangerous driving. He received a one-year jail sentence and was disqualified from driving for three and a half years. His record also includes a previous conviction for deliberately driving into a 16-year-old cyclist.
