Cheshire Police seized more than 40 zombie knives and other dangerous bladed weapons after stopping a red Volkswagen Polo near Junction 17 on the M6 motorway late on 28 May. The vehicle, linked to weapons offences through ANPR checks, carried two suspects from Birmingham. This significant weapons haul highlights ongoing efforts to reduce knife crime in the region.
Strategic Police Patrol
Officers on patrol identified the suspicious vehicle just before midnight. Acting on ANPR intelligence, the police stopped the car and found a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman inside. A careful search uncovered boxes filled with zombie-style knives, knuckledusters, machetes, and other lethal weapons.
Suspects Arrested And Released
Both occupants were arrested on suspicion of possession of bladed articles in a public place and possessing offensive weapons for sale. The 19-year-old man has since been ruled out of the investigation, while the 18-year-old woman remains released on conditional bail as inquiries continue.
Operation Sceptre Context
Chief Inspector Joe McNally, knife crime lead for Cheshire Constabulary, praised the officers for their quick thinking and linked the seizure to recent proactive efforts. The force’s recent participation in Operation Sceptre, a national campaign targeting knife crime, resulted in over 250 weapons recovered across Cheshire in just one week.
Weapons To Be Destroyed
Chief Insp McNally confirmed that the seized blades, including zombie knives and a knuckleduster, will be destroyed. He emphasised that removing these weapons from circulation is crucial for improving street safety and preventing serious violence.
