Gardaí are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a devastating motorway crash in Co Kildare which claimed the lives of five teenagers aged between 14 and 17.

The collision happened near Moone after a BMW reportedly travelled the wrong way along the M9 before crashing.

Among those who died was 17-year-old Kamil Pustkowski, who had been living in Limerick.

Reports suggest investigators are examining the backgrounds and movements of those involved as they attempt to establish exactly what happened in the hours leading up to the fatal collision.

However, claims that Pustkowski had previous interactions with Gardaí, including allegations concerning vehicle interference, public-order incidents, youth justice matters or associations with joyriding groups, should not be presented as established fact without attributable Garda confirmation or reliable published evidence.

Investigators are expected to examine available CCTV, vehicle and forensic evidence as well as the movements of the BMW before it entered the motorway.

The deaths of five young people have also focused attention on the dangers associated with young people gaining access to vehicles and engaging in high-risk driving.

A detailed investigation into the collision remains ongoing, with Gardaí working to reconstruct the sequence of events that culminated in the tragedy.

Further information is expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
