A 25-year-old man has been jailed for 24 years after fatally stabbing/" class="uknip-smart-link uknip-internal-link" data-uknip-link="1">stabbing a young man during an incident in Huddersfield.
Luke Belbin, of Mitre Street, Huddersfield, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for the manslaughter of 20-year-old Kyrell Fleary-Gayle.
Belbin had been found guilty of manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon by a jury on 6 August following a two-week trial.
Jurors heard that Belbin and Kyrell came into contact outside an address in Greenwood Street, Huddersfield, on 20 January.
During the encounter, Belbin stabbed Kyrell, causing fatal injuries.
Belbin fled following the stabbing and was later picked up in Bell Street by a man driving a Nissan X-Trail.
He remained at large for four days before handing himself in to police.
The driver of the vehicle, Cameron Boylan, 20, of Fanny Moor Crescent, Huddersfield, was subsequently arrested and charged with assisting an offender.
Boylan was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court to two years’ imprisonment, suspended, for his role in assisting Belbin following the fatal stabbing.
Belbin was ordered to serve 24 years in prison for the manslaughter of Kyrell and the weapons offence.
