A cash-handling vehicle seen at a hotel being used to accommodate migrants has sparked speculation online about why money was being delivered to or collected from the site.

Several social media users suggested the visit may have been connected to an ATM inside the hotel, with cash machines routinely serviced by security companies which replace cash cassettes and reconcile withdrawals.

Others claimed the money could have been intended as payments for migrants staying at the hotel, but no evidence has been provided to support that claim.

Another suggestion was that cash may be issued while people wait for prepaid payment cards, although there is nothing in the material provided which confirms that was happening in this case.

The presence of a cash-security company at a migrant hotel does not by itself show that money was being delivered directly to residents, as such companies also service ATMs and carry out routine cash collections and deliveries for businesses.

Without confirmation from the hotel operator, the cash-handling company or the Home Office, the purpose of the visit remains unclear.
