Tragic Death After Police Chase Crash in Ilford

At around 3.30pm on Monday, 26 June, a dramatic chase ended in disaster on Cranbrook Road, Ilford. A car that failed to stop for police smashed into a moped at the Martley Drive junction.

Moped Rider Dies Days Later

Emergency services rushed to the scene. The moped rider, a man in his 20s, was treated on-site before being rushed to hospital. Sadly, he died a week later on Monday, 3 July. His grieving next of kin have been informed.

Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

There were no other reported injuries, but detectives are desperate to hear from anyone who saw the collision or the events leading up to it. Road users who may have caught the incident on dashcam are urged to come forward.

Independent Investigation Underway

The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified as standard. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a separate probe into the incident.
