Dodgy Renovation Scam Hits Elderly Woman in Newton

At around 3.45pm on 21st February, a crafty man knocked on the door of a woman in her 70s living off Main Street, Newton. Claiming he was working on renovations, he said he needed to check the water pressure.

Shifty Trickster Swipes Cash and Makes Off

The man ran the tap and told the pensioner to knock on the table if the pressure changed. While she was distracted, he searched the home and stole money from her purse. He left just before 4pm, slipping away unnoticed.

  • Wearing a dark jumper and a flat cap

Derbyshire Police want anyone in the area at the time to come forward. They’re especially keen to see dashcam or CCTV footage that might catch the suspect on camera.
