Veteran Chief Constable Scott Chilton Returns to Hampshire Force

Scott Chilton, 49, is making a homecoming to the police force where he began his career at just 18. With 31 years under his belt, including 16 as a detective and several strategic leadership roles, Chilton is ready to lead Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary into a new era.

Community First, Crime Second

“Having strong relationships with local communities is the bedrock of policing,” said Chilton. He stressed the importance of local teams being visible and connected to the people they serve. His mantra is clear: keep communities safe while showing kindness and compassion to victims.

Chilton pledges to relentlessly pursue criminals and deliver top-notch investigations to ensure offenders face justice.

Local Man with Local Priorities

Not just a police chief, Chilton is a Hampshire resident with family and friends in the area. “Both personally and professionally, I share your expectations,” he said. During his appointment hearing, Chilton highlighted his commitment to boosting officer visibility and strengthening neighbourhood policing.

He fully supports the Police and Crime Commissioner’s “More Police, Safer Streets” plan, which has secured new funding to increase patrols and improve local safety.

Commissioner Donna Jones Backs Chilton’s Vision

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones warmly welcomed Chilton’s return. “Scott has vast experience and a shared vision for policing focused on neighbourhood teams,” she said.

Jones has pledged to bring back named local bobbies in every community by April 2024, with Chilton’s full support. “We want Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to be the safest places to live, work, and visit,” she added.

“The public expects tough action on crime, better police visibility, and justice for victims. I’m confident Scott will deliver on these priorities.”
