Wiltshire Police HQ Evacuated Over False Alarm

A precautionary evacuation rocked Wiltshire Police Headquarters in Devizes yesterday (10 September). Authorities responded to what was initially feared a security breach – but it turned out to be a non-malicious communication from a vulnerable individual.

Deputy Chief Constable Speaks Out

Deputy Chief Constable Craig Dibdin addressed the incident and reassured the public. He revealed the emergency response was triggered by early concerns over a possible security threat.

“Yesterday evening, we responded to a report of a possible security breach at Police Headquarters Devizes. As the information developed, precautionary steps were taken to ensure the safety of everyone on site, including activating security procedures and deploying armed officers,” said DCC Dibdin.

No Threat Found – Individual Was Vulnerable

Police later established there was no breach. The person who raised the alarm was at home and experiencing a medical episode. Crucially, there was no malicious intent behind the communication.

DCC Dibdin added, “We are reviewing our procedures to strengthen how we respond in future. At no point was there any threat to the public, officers, or HQ staff.”

Swift Action and Safety Remain Top Priority

  • The evacuation and HQ search were conducted quickly and efficiently.
  • Police confirmed the safety of staff and public was paramount.
  • Authorities have launched a procedural review to boost future security.

Wiltshire Police remain committed to protecting their community and keeping their own premises secure – no matter what scares come their way.
