Police Crack Down on Ashford Car Meet with Dispersal Order
Kent Police have slammed the brakes on a rowdy car enthusiast meet-up planned for Ashford this weekend. A dispersal order is now in force, targeting known trouble spots to stop another night of anti-social chaos.
Dispersal Order Targets Hotspots
The meet was set for Saturday evening, 25 July 2020, but following past incidents involving loud revving engines, blaring music, and reckless driving, cops aren’t taking any chances. The dispersal order covers Henwood Industrial Estate, Ellingham Industrial Estate, and Sevington Industrial Park from 6pm Friday 24 July until 6pm Sunday 26 July.
This means officers can force people and vehicles to leave the area for up to 24 hours, and anyone caught returning risks having their property, including cars, seized.
Police Warn: Anti-Social Behaviour Won’t Be Tolerated
Inspector Jason Atkinson of Ashford’s Community Safety Unit said: “We know that anti-social behaviour is usually carried out by a minority, but meet-ups like this have previously caused alarm and distress to the public. A dispersal order is just one of the ways we can tackle the issue.”
“We’re happy to work with organisers to offer advice and help avoid offences,” he added.
Public Urged to Report Disturbances
The police are urging locals to keep reporting incidents by calling 101 or 999 in emergencies. You can also report anti-social behaviour online to help keep Ashford’s streets safe and quiet.
