Body Parts Found in Cheshire Confirmed as Missing Woman Marie Scott
Human remains discovered near the Manchester Ship Canal in Cheshire have been confirmed as belonging to missing woman Marie Scott. The grisly discovery was first reported on Sunday 15 December 2019, when suspected body parts were spotted on the Mersey marshes, about a mile from Frodsham.
DNA Testing Confirms Identity
After a thorough investigation and extensive efforts by Cheshire officers, DNA tests carried out on Friday 24 January 2020 confirmed the remains were Marie’s. She had been missing since 18 December 2017, last seen at her home in Hale, Greater Manchester. Her family have been informed and are receiving support during this heartbreaking time.
Earlier Find Linked to Marie
The latest confirmation follows a discovery last December 2018, when a human leg was found in the River Irwell, Pendleton. That limb was also identified as Marie’s. Police have since stayed committed to finding answers for her grieving family.
No Suspicious Circumstances Suspected
Authorities continue to investigate the details around Marie’s disappearance but believe no foul play or further involvement of other parties is likely. Detective Inspector Simon Akker from Greater Manchester Police’s Trafford district said:
“Having been personally involved in Marie’s case since she was reported missing in 2017, and having met with her family several times, my heart truly goes out to them. This has been an agonising journey for those closest to Marie and we will support them as they continue to come to terms with the loss of Marie.”
