Musk Holds the Reins: No Twitter Bans Lifted—Yet
Elon Musk has slammed the brakes on Twitter account reinstatements for now. Despite rumours swirling about bans being reversed, the Tesla boss made it crystal clear: no changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies have been made yet.
“To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies,” Musk tweeted, quashing hopes of banned users making an instant comeback.
‘Different Game Modes’ for Twitter?
Musk chimed in on an intriguing idea from right-wing researcher Cosmin Dzsurdzsa. The suggestion? Twitter could have multiple “game modes” — one where verified users can freely clash (PvP mode) and another strict-moderation mode for the rest. Musk called it “something like this makes sense.”
Content Moderation Council Takes Centre Stage
Before any banned high-profile figures, including Donald Trump, can return, Musk insists on forming a content moderation council representing a wide range of views. “Before that council meets, no major content decisions or account reinstatements will be made,” he confirmed.
This council is expected to be the gatekeeper of controversial account returns, dashing hopes of an immediate Trump Twitter comeback. Trump, meanwhile, took a potshot on his own Truth Social platform, saying he’s “very happy Twitter is now in sane hands” but gave no hint on returning.
Musk’s Takeover: Shake-Up and Shake-Out
- Musk sealed his £38 billion Twitter buyout early Friday, tweeting “the bird is freed.”
- He stepped in as CEO, ousting Parag Agrawal and other top execs.
- The US SEC confirmed Twitter’s delisting from the New York Stock Exchange as the company goes private.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief has vowed to ditch permanent bans, stirring concern from online safety advocates and users worried about an “anything goes” free speech policy.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged caution, insisting any return of banned users must involve expert consultation “incredibly carefully.”
Musk told advertisers he wants Twitter to be a space where “a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner,” attempting to calm nerves as his reign begins.
