Police officer hit by ball bearing tossed from Maidstone bridge

An officer patrolling the River Medway in Maidstone was struck by a lead ball bearing thrown from Broadway bridge. The shocking attack happened at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 12 March 2019.

The ball bearing hit the officer’s hand as he was on a police boat below the bridge. Fortunately, the injury was not worse, but Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes warned the consequences could have been severe.

“If the ball bearing had struck the officer in the face or head, it could easily have led to a serious injury,” he said.

Police hunt suspects spotted on bridge

Kent Police are eager to speak to two young men seen near the bridge just before the incident. They want to figure out what led up to the dangerous act.
