A precautionary evacuation of Wiltshire Police Headquarters in Devizes, which took place yesterday (10 September), was triggered by a non-malicious communication from a vulnerable individual, police have confirmed.
Deputy Chief Constable Craig Dibdin has released a statement addressing the incident and outlining the measures taken by authorities. He explained that the response was a precaution following initial concerns about a potential security breach.
DCC Dibdin added: “As per standard practice, we are taking the opportunity to review our procedures and response to this incident. At no point was there any threat to the public, officers, or HQ staff.”

Police have confirmed that the safety of all staff and members of the public was the priority, and the evacuation and subsequent search of the HQ were conducted swiftly. The incident has prompted a procedural review to ensure continued security at the facility.
