Woman Airlifted with Serious Head Injuries After Horror Crash on Isle of Wight
A woman driving a Toyota Yaris suffered life-changing head injuries in a smash on the Brook Road Junction in Chessell, Isle of Wight, this evening. She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital after being trapped in her car for around 30 minutes. Three others were rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for treatment.
Emergency Crews Battle to Free Woman
The crash happened just after 5pm on Monday. Firefighters from Freshwater, Ryde, and Newport scrambled to the scene, along with the Rescue Tender station at Newport. They used specialist cutting gear and the jaws of life to remove the roof and free the trapped woman from her vehicle.
Shocking Scene as Investigation Gets Underway
Locals described hearing a massive bang “like a bomb going off” as the two vehicles collided on the B3401 and B3399 near Middle Road. Authorities have closed off the area, advising drivers to find alternative routes while a full collision investigation takes place.
Police from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Armed Roads Policing Unit are probing the cause of the crash. The road closures could last for hours as specialists examine the scene and damaged vehicles.
