Reckless Van Driver Jailed After High-Speed Chase Through Doncaster Streets
Tony Ellison, 39, of Lothian Road, has been locked up for 18 months after a dangerous driving spree in Doncaster. Ellison faces charges of driving without a licence, insurance, and putting lives at risk.
Van Driver Flees Police at Breakneck Speed
On 4 April 2020, police spotted Ellison’s silver Ford Transit van acting suspiciously on Leger Way. When officers ordered him to stop, he floored it instead.
The chase was on.
- Ellison slammed through red lights.
- He sped over pedestrian zones and grass verges.
- He hit over 50mph in a 20mph residential area.
- He crashed through bollards and ignored parked cars.
Officers Risked It All to Bring Ellison Down
PC Will Lane, who led the operation, said: “Ellison showed zero regard for the safety of pedestrians, other drivers, or police officers. He even drove onto pavements and up a grass verge while trying to escape.”
Officers finally boxed in the van using tactical containment. But Ellison wasn’t done yet – he smashed a passenger window and bolted, only to be tackled after trying to climb a garden fence.
The crazed chase left two police cars and two private vehicles damaged. One officer suffered minor hand injuries.
Justice Served: Jail and Driving Ban for Ellison
Ellison was sentenced on 21 January. He’ll spend 18 months behind bars and will be banned from driving for 12 months after his release.
PC Lane added: “This case shows why routine vehicle checks are crucial. Dangerous drivers like Ellison are a real threat, but now he’s off our roads.”
