West London Man Arrested Over Terror Plot After Returning From Syria
Isa Giga, 31, formerly of Hounslow, west London, was charged on 24 May with planning terrorist acts. He allegedly travelled to Syria to fight for the Jaysh Al Fath group, breaking section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Arrested on Arrival from Turkey
Authorities detained Giga on 23 May as he landed at a London airport from Turkey. Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command arrested him on suspicion of terrorism offences under section 5. He was taken to a London police station before being formally charged.
Court Appearance Set for Saturday
Giga is due to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 25 May. The case remains active, and police are maintaining tight security measures.
Met Commander Issues Warning
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Given the charges against this individual, we won’t comment further due to active criminal proceedings. However, anyone returning to the UK suspected of terrorist activity overseas can expect thorough investigation. We work closely with UK and international partners to keep the public safe.”
