Drunken Knife Rampage in Thornton Heath Ends in Conviction

A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after a terrifying knife attack spree in Thornton Heath. Samiualahq Akbari, 32, launched a drunken hunt for victims, brandishing a large kitchen knife and threatening multiple people across several locations.

Crazed Killer Called Cousin: “I Want to Kill English People”

On the night of January 8, Akbari, heavily drunk, made a chilling phone call to his cousin at 8:45pm stating he wanted to “kill English people.” His cousin rushed to Thornton Heath to check on him, fearing the worst.

They went to a fast food shop where Akbari’s cousin called the police. When trying to calm him, Akbari stormed off, triggering a desperate manhunt.

Knife-Wielding Rampage: From Kebab Shop to Tesco

  • Akbari barged into a kebab shop on London Road and grabbed a large kitchen knife.
  • He threatened customers, demanding to know where they were from.
  • He then stormed into a pub, lunging at groups while wielding the knife.
  • Finally, he entered Tesco, charging at a customer after confirming he was from the UK, narrowly missing him in a struggle.

Police arrived swiftly and caught Akbari running through a nearby garden. He was arrested and later charged with attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon, affray, and threatening with a weapon.

Investigator Condemns Attack, Victims Left Shaken

“It is clear he intended to cause serious harm and targeted people based on their nationality. Quick action prevented tragedy,” said Detective Sergeant Tim Conroy.

Akbari admitted to some charges but denied attempted murder. The jury found him guilty after a week-long trial at the Old Bailey on Friday, 5 July.

He is due to be sentenced on 26 July. Victims hope the conviction brings some peace after the nightmare ordeal.
