Off-Duty Cop Snaps Into Action, Helps Assault Victim in Deal

Hero Officer Spots Injured Woman in Early Hours

On the way home from a late shift, an off-duty police officer spotted a woman with her head in her hands near Dover Road, Deal just after midnight on Sunday, 7 November 2021. The officer immediately swung into action.

She took the victim to a family member’s home and called in the authorities. An investigation quickly began to uncover how the woman got her injuries.

Suspect Nabbed After Quick Police Probe

Lee Dardani, 49, known to the victim, was identified as the key suspect and arrested the very same morning. Police inquiries by the East Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team pointed to the assault happening near Priory Station Approach Road, Dover.

A witness confirmed seeing the victim being followed by Dardani shortly before 1am, alleging he had hit her. Further checks revealed Dardani’s car was indeed present at both crime scenes around the time of the assault.

Justice Served at Canterbury Crown Court

Dardani, from Downs Road, Walmer, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He admitted the offence in court.

On 23 February 2022, he was sentenced to one year in jail and slapped with a two-year restraining order barring him from contacting the victim once released.

Police Praise Officer’s Quick Thinking

PC Jess Meadway, the lead investigator, said: “Police officers don’t stop caring for victims when off duty. The officer who spotted this woman on her way home quickly noticed something was seriously wrong.”

“Protecting women and girls from violence is a top priority for Kent Police. I’m pleased the investigation led to this violent man being put behind bars and a court order protecting the victim.”

“Anyone suffering abuse or mistreatment should report it immediately so we can act fast to keep them safe and bring offenders to justice.”
