Police Dog Monty Sniffs Out Key Evidence in Brutal Barnet Murder
A police search dog named Monty has been hailed a hero after helping secure convictions for five men involved in the brutal murder of 30-year-old Olsi Kuka in Barnet. The grisly crime, which shocked the quiet High Road, N20 neighbourhood, has highlighted the relentless police hunt for justice.
Gruesome Attack Leaves Olsi Kuka Dead
Olsi Kuka suffered a vicious attack involving multiple weapons before succumbing to his injuries shortly afterwards. The post-mortem revealed stab wounds inflicted by at least two different knives and four metal ball bearings found lodged in his scalp — apparently fired from an air weapon. The sheer savagery stunned investigators determined to catch the killers.
Monty’s Sniff Leads To £8,000 Stash
Monty, partnered with PC Neil Dobson, played a pivotal role in the investigation. Using his trained nose, Monty uncovered a hidden £8,000 cash stash in the headboard of a bed—overlooked by the attackers during their violent rampage through Olsi’s flat.
This crucial find helped homicide detectives from the Met Police’s Specialist Crime Command use CCTV footage and mobile phone data to pinpoint the five men responsible, paving the way for their trial.
The Five Convicted Attackers
- Daige Ramsey (25), Winchester Road, E4 – Manslaughter
- Santana Thompson (21), Aldridge Way, Waltham Forest – Manslaughter
- Ozan Seran (28), No fixed address – Pleaded guilty to manslaughter
- Bulent Bakir (27), Old Road, Enfield – Conspiracy to rob
- Reuben Bernard (19), Wootton, Northampton – Murder, convicted in a separate trial
Sentencing will be handed down at the Old Bailey on a date yet to be announced.
Detective Praises Monty’s Crucial Role
“The violence used in this attack was calculated, vicious, and unrelenting. The five men had planned to rob Olsi and were prepared to use any force necessary,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson. “We are thankful for the work of our police dog Monty, who was able to find vital evidence that helped secure a successful conviction.”
