Kent Man Locked Up for Ten Years Over Illegal Gun Plot
Dion Williams, 34, from Rosemary Gardens in Broadstairs, Kent, has been slammed with a decade behind bars. The sentencing took place at Maidstone Crown Court today, Friday 10 May, after a two-week trial.
Guilty of Gun and Ammo Conspiracy
Williams was found guilty of:
- Conspiracy to transfer a prohibited weapon – a Colt .455 self-loading pistol
- Conspiracy to transfer prohibited ammunition – 49 rounds of .455 compatible bullets
Met Police Crackdown Leads to Arrest
This conviction stems from a clever intelligence operation by the Met’s Trident and Area Crime Command. The court heard that on 19 February 2017, officers staked out Ramsgate, Kent. Their surveillance paid off when armed Kent police stopped two vehicles on the M2 near Maidstone, heading back to London.
They seized a Colt self-loading pistol and 49 rounds of matching ammunition. Forensic tests tied Williams to the crime, but he had fled the UK.
Williams Caught After Return to UK
Williams was caught on 5 September 2018, shortly after re-entering the country. Charged the next day, he faced Maidstone Crown Court where the hammer finally fell on his illegal arms dealings.
