Professor Meyer to Lead New Older People’s Housing Taskforce

A fresh government taskforce aimed at boosting housing options for older Brits will be chaired by expert Professor Julienne Meyer.

Taskforce to Tackle Housing, Health, and Care

Professor Meyer, a top name in elder care, will drive efforts to grow a vibrant older people’s housing sector nationwide. The taskforce will connect housing, health, and care services to expand and diversify housing choices for seniors. Their recommendations will be pitched straight to the Government.

The announcement came with today’s Adult Social Care Implementation plan from the Department of Health.

Government Ramping Up Support for Older Housing Choices

“Making sure older people can access the right homes that meet their needs later in life is a government priority,” Housing Minister Rachel Maclean said.

“By unlocking more housing for older people, we can have a hugely beneficial impact on their health and wellbeing.”

“I’m thrilled Professor Meyer is leading this taskforce as we push to radically improve retirement housing and support independence for longer.”

Professor Meyer: Bridging Housing and Care for Real Change

“I’m delighted to lead this taskforce – a real chance to improve older people’s lives,” said Professor Meyer.

“Success depends on connecting housing, health and social care. I look forward to advising government on how to give older people more choice in later life.”

  • Interim findings are due in six months.
  • Up to 14 members will join from social and private retirement sectors, local government, adult social care, investors, and developers.
