Pervert piggybacked on neighbour’s Wi-Fi to hoard 12,000 sick child abuse images

Terence Standage, 61, spent more than six years secretly accessing thousands of indecent images and videos. Police first got wind of shady internet activity in January 2019 when they visited an address in Charlton Lane, maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone.

Wi-Fi freeloading leads cops to vile stash

The homeowner revealed Standage had been leeching off their Wi-Fi. That led officers straight to Standage’s own property where they executed a search warrant. Various devices – including a memory stick and hard drive – were seized for forensic analysis.

Nearly 12,000 illegal files uncovered

Investigators uncovered almost 12,000 unlawful images and videos. Shocking new evidence revealed over 300 of these were in the most serious category. Standage was also caught up in other offences, including upskirting unknown females on a train and a bus.

Sentenced and slapped with Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Standage faced four counts of making indecent images of a child and three counts of outraging public decency. He was recalled to prison for breaching licence terms from prior sex offences. On 5 May 2021, he pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and was jailed for two years and four months. He also received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective slams ‘calculated’ efforts to avoid detection

DS Dave Shipley from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team said: “Standage has a lengthy history of offending. Despite previous convictions, he made sustained efforts to access abhorrent child sexual abuse material online.

“His calculated use of someone else’s Wi-Fi shows how determined he was to avoid detection. Make no mistake, the images he sought involved real children suffering horrifying abuse.

“People like him have no understanding of the gravity of their actions and must face justice.”
