Tragic Loss: West Midlands Firefighter Found Dead on Duty

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed the heartbreaking death of firefighter Andrew Moore, aged 50. He was discovered dead on the night shift at Wolverhampton fire station on Sunday, 16 February 2020.

Firefighter Took His Own Life

Andrew Moore, a respected senior officer from Red Watch, tragically took his own life. Chief Fire Officer Phil Loach expressed deep shock at the news.

“Andrew’s death has come as a great shock to the entire service. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and colleagues,” said Loach. “We will continue to provide all the support they need at this very difficult time.”

Community Mourns and Supports

The West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority (WMFRA) marked the loss with a minute’s silence at their meeting this morning. Chair Councillor Greg Brackenridge empathised with Andrew’s family and colleagues.

“Our thoughts are very much with Andrew’s family. His death has affected many within and beyond the service. We’ll do all we can to support those in need,” Brackenridge stated.

  • Joined North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in September 1993
  • Transferred to West Midlands Fire Service in May 1996
  • Flags at WMFS sites to fly at half-mast from 8am on Monday, 17 February
