Home Invader Jailed for Preying on Elderly in Portsmouth
Burglar Snatches £400 and Elderly Woman’s Purse
Amanda Deary, 52, has been locked up for four years after breaking into four homes and stealing from vulnerable pensioners in Portsmouth. The thief struck at a sheltered housing complex in Southsea and even snatched a 90-year-old woman’s purse on the street.
Multiple Break-Ins Terrify Elderly Residents
- First scare on February 15 when a nurse caught Deary red-handed but she escaped empty-handed.
- May 8 saw Deary return, this time grabbing toilet rolls and a hefty £400 cash haul.
- She also mugged a 90-year-old woman in Palmerston Road on July 26.
Police Crack Down on Callous Crimes
Deary pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary and one of robbery. Portsmouth Crown Court swiftly sentenced her to four years behind bars.
“Amanda Deary deliberately targeted vulnerable, elderly victims, and I hope this sentence provides them with some closure,” said PC 1 Pocock. “Finding someone in your home, or knowing someone has been there while you sleep, is extremely distressing for anyone, and we take crimes like this extremely seriously.”
