Met Detective Convicted of 2015 Sexual Assault
Detective Constable Justin Gilmore, 52, serving with Met Operations, was found guilty at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday, 8 November. The conviction came after a probe by officers from the Central South Command Unit.
Gilmore remains suspended from duty pending further action.
Commander Praises Victim’s Bravery
Commander Ben Russell said: “This allegation dates back eight years but is no less serious. We are extremely grateful to the victim for her courage in coming forward, allowing us to bring DC Gilmore to justice. We urge anyone in similar situations to speak up so we can offer support and take action.”
He added, “This behaviour is completely unacceptable. We are committed to rooting out anyone within the Met who fails to meet our standards.”
Details of the Case
- Gilmore was charged on 14 December 2022 with sexually assaulting a female colleague during an off-duty social event in Southwark on 22 July 2015.
- At the time, he was stationed at Southwark police station.
- The assault was reported to police on 6 January 2022, leading to Gilmore’s interview under caution, suspension, and eventual charge.
- The jury returned a majority verdict of guilty.
- The court fined Gilmore £1,000 and ordered him to pay £1,500 in costs.

Commander Russell confirmed: “DC Gilmore will now face a gross misconduct hearing as soon as possible.” The Met is determined to maintain public trust by holding officers accountable.
