Walton Brawl Sees Three Sentenced After Liverpool FC Celebrations
Violence erupted late on Wednesday 22 July in Walton’s Breck Road area, sparking chaos with fights and bottles thrown. The trouble broke out around 11:25pm, shortly after Liverpool FC’s trophy-lifting celebrations.
Thugs Behind Bars
Following a police investigation using CCTV and witness testimonies, three men were arrested in September. They have now been sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court:
- William Duggan, 21, of Broadfield Avenue, Beechwood, Birkenhead – 12 months in prison for violent disorder.
- Jake Robinson, 20, of Glenfield Close, Beechwood, Birkenhead – 12 months in a young offenders institute.
- Jake Duffy, 20, of Arley Close, Beechwood, Birkenhead – 12 months in a young offenders institute.
All three also received seven-year football banning orders, banning them from matches and related events.
Police Crackdown on Disorder
“It is pleasing to see the courts deal with these three violent and reckless men, who were clearly intent on causing trouble following Liverpool FC’s trophy lifting ceremony,” said Detective Constable Nicholas Glascott-Tull.
“While most supporters gathered peacefully, this flashpoint of violence caused fear and danger in the city. Such behaviour is never tolerated.”
“Our thorough investigations and more than twenty arrests from previous Pier Head disorder show we are committed to bringing offenders to justice.”
“With the city still in Tier 3 restrictions, large gatherings risk spreading infection and triggering harsher lockdowns. Fans will be able to celebrate safely when the time is right.”
