Police Drone Snaps Suspect Abandoning Van After Drug Drive Chase
A daring police drone played a crucial role in tracking down a man who ditched his vehicle after driving under the influence of drugs.
Van Spotted Driving on Wrong Side of Road
Just after 10.10pm on Monday, 2 October 2023, an officer from the Rural Task Force on patrol in Detling, near Maidstone, spotted a van careering on the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle sped off but was soon found abandoned on a secluded track off Blue Bell Hill.
Drone Pinpoints Suspect Hiding in Trees
With a police dog and officers scouring the area, a specialist drone operator spotted movement in a nearby line of trees. The drone guided officers straight to the suspect’s hiding spot.
Staplehurst Man Arrested on Multiple Charges
The 27-year-old man from Staplehurst was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, and driving under the influence of drugs.
He has since been released on bail, with enquiries ongoing until 13 January 2024.
