Ex-Leicestershire Cop Jailed for Stalking Female Colleague
John Stuart Clough, 51, a former Leicestershire police officer, has been locked up for 22 months after admitting to stalking a female colleague and abusing police computer systems. The sentencing took place at Northampton Crown Court, covering his offences between 2022 and 2023.
Relentless Stalking and Misuse of Police Data
Clough repeatedly bombarded the victim with unwanted messages and showed up uninvited at incidents involving her. Worse, he illegally accessed police databases to track her movements. The victim’s brave report led to his arrest on suspicion of stalking.
Apologies Didn’t Stop His Creepy Behaviour
Despite offering an apology, Clough pressed on, causing significant distress to his victim. Now, alongside his prison term, he’s slapped with a five-year restraining order banning any contact with her.
Leicestershire Police Take a Stand
Chief Constable Rob Nixon slammed Clough’s actions: “Stalking offences like this cause immense distress. Even after being warned, Clough ignored the harm he was causing.”
The force confirmed internal misconduct proceedings will follow Clough’s conviction. Nixon praised the victim’s bravery and urged other stalking victims to step forward and use available support services.
Police Force Cracks Down on Officer Misconduct
Clough’s sentence reflects Leicestershire Police’s commitment to strict conduct standards. Officers must uphold trust both on and off duty — or face the consequences.
