Hastings RNLI Hero Queues 13 Hours to Pay Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II
Glenn Barry, a veteran volunteer with Hastings RNLI, made the pilgrimage to London this weekend to pay his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen had been the Patron of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution—a tradition held by every British monarch since King George IV in the 1820s. This role lends vital prestige and support to the lifesaving charity.
Long Wait, Powerful Moment at Westminster Hall
After enduring a grueling 13-hour queue, Glenn entered Westminster Hall in time to witness the Queen’s children standing vigil over their mother’s coffin. Members of the public silently paid homage, sharing the poignant moment.
“Yesterday was such an honour representing the RNLI. The public were so supportive towards the RNLI. After 13 hours, it was amazing to see the royals,” Glenn said.
Three Decades of Lifesaving Service in Hastings
Glenn has been a core member of the Hastings RNLI lifeboat crew for over 30 years. He serves on the All Weather Lifeboat Crew and is a qualified Helmsman on the Inshore Lifeboat, risking his life to save others off the coast.
