Tommy Robinson Rally Faces Police Crackdown: Strict Conditions Imposed
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has slapped down strict conditions on the controversial “Free Tommy Robinson” rally set for Saturday, 3 August. Supporters of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, aka Tommy Robinson, must follow tight rules—just as counter-protesters from groups like ‘Stop Tommy Robinson’ and ‘Stand Up to Racism’ have been handed their own restrictions.
Police: Rally Locations Locked Down
Under Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986, the MPS has dictated where and when both protests can happen to avoid clashes:
- Free Tommy Robinson rally: Must stay south of All Souls Road, in a specific area on 1 Place, London W1B, fenced off and directed by police.
- Allowed only between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
- Counter-protesters (‘Stop Tommy Robinson’ & ‘Stand Up to Racism’): Must assemble north of 5 Portland Place, W1B, in a police-designated zone.
- Strictly banned from gathering anywhere else to disrupt the Tommy Robinson event.
- Permitted between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
Commander Warns: Follow The Rules or Face Arrest
Commander Kyle Gordon, Gold Commander for the operation, said: “As a police service we must protect the rights of all—protesters and those affected by these events alike. These protests can cause serious tension and disorder, both on the day and afterwards.”
“I’ve carefully weighed up how to police this while minimising disruption to Londoners. Conditions have been set based on what info we have now. If you protest, do it legally and stick to these rules. Anyone breaching conditions risks arrest and prosecution.”
“We have a full operation in place to keep the peace and handle anyone who turns violent swiftly and robustly.”
London Braces For Tense Saturday
With both sides heavily policed and corralled into separate zones, this weekend’s events could still spark frustration. But police vow to clamp down hard on troublemakers. By setting these tight controls, the MPS hopes to keep London safe—and keep the peace in the face of clashing ideologies.
