Brighton Burglar Jason Turner Jailed for 40 Months

Jason Turner, 40, from Brighton’s The Crestway, was locked up for 40 months last Friday (January 5). The sentence came after an intense 11-day trial last year.

Ten Burglary Counts plus Assault and Knife Charges

Turner was found guilty in November 2023 of:

  • 10 counts of burglary
  • 2 thefts
  • One charge of actual bodily harm
  • One knife possession offence

His crime spree hit 13 different spots across Brighton between January 12 and February 9, 2023.

From Vacuum Cleaners to Violent Attacks

Turner’s raid kicked off on January 12 when he broke into a travel agency on Western Road, nicking electronics and even a vacuum cleaner. Forensic experts tied him down with fingerprints.

On January 16, he stole a mobile phone from a shop in Hove’s Station Road. When caught, Turner headbutted a staff member, causing actual bodily harm. Despite his claims of being the victim, police issued an arrest warrant.

Crime Spree Doesn’t Slow Down

  • January 24: Turner blagged his way into a York Place pub, stealing till takings and threatening staff as he escaped.
  • January 26: Stole from a Marine Parade hotel’s staff room and triggered an alarm while nicking a till from another business.
  • February 2: Broke into Edwards Street takeaway stealing a till and drinks, then burgled a Market Street pub cellar hours later.
  • February 4: Hit a Brighton Square clothing store twice overnight for cash and goods, plus stole laptops and a backpack from a Kings Road hotel.
  • February 5: Nabbed appliances and electronics from student accommodation on Hollingdean Road.

Arrest, Bail, and Continued Crime

Turner was arrested at home on February 6 for multiple offences, including five burglaries and failing to appear in court. However, once bailed, he went back to his criminal antics on February 8, raiding a Gloucester Street restaurant for cash.

The next day, he attempted a burglary in Kensington Gardens and threatened a taxi driver with a knife on Madeira Drive, leading to his final arrest.

In custody, new evidence linked Turner to four more crimes, bringing total charges to 14 before his court date on October 30.

Justice finally caught up with Brighton’s brazen burglar – and he’s now behind bars.
