Blaze in Hernhill Field Doused by Kent Firefighters

A grass fire broke out in Hernhill, Faversham, on Wednesday afternoon, but Kent Fire and Rescue Service swiftly put it out.

Five Fire Engines Rush to Scene

The alarm sounded at 4.27pm, sending five fire engines and a special all-terrain support vehicle speeding to Monkshill Road. Fire crews used high-pressure hose reel jets and wildfire gear to battle flames racing through a field of dry, cut grass.

The fire was under control by 5.27pm and completely extinguished shortly after. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Kent Fire Service Issues Hot Weather Warning

Following the fire, Kent Fire and Rescue Service has urged locals to stay vigilant during the dry, hot weather that fuels wildfire risks.

  • Avoid bonfires during dry spells.
  • Dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials safely.
  • Use extra caution when barbecuing.

They also advise that disposable barbecues be placed on flat, non-flammable surfaces and only thrown away once completely cooled — either in bins or designated sites.

Stay Safe and Help Prevent Fires

“Dry conditions mean fires can start and spread fast,” the fire service warned. By following these tips, residents can protect their community and help prevent more blazes.
