Protest Chaos on the M25: Two Arrested on Motorway Gantries

Early Morning M25 Drama as Police Take Action

Kent Police swooped onto the M25 in the early hours of Wednesday, 9 November 2022, after protesters climbed motorway gantries. Officers were called to junction 4 at around 7am, shutting down the carriageway briefly to remove and arrest a 71-year-old man from Cornwall.

Just half an hour later, police tackled another protest at junction 1A, arresting a 75-year-old woman from Somerset. Both remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Week of Disruption: Three Women Charged Over Protests

The chaos didn’t stop there. Earlier the same week, Kent Police dealt with similar incidents. On Monday 7 November, at 8am, a woman was hauled off a gantry at junction 1A near the Dartford Crossing. Despite the drama, the motorway stayed open to ease traffic delays.

Tuesday 8 November saw officers arrest two more women near junction 1B after reports hinted at fresh protest plans.

Charged and Court-Bound: Names Released

  • Theresa Norton, 54, of Scarborough, was charged with intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance following the junction 1A protests. She appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the very same day.
  • Lucia Whittaker-de-Abreu, 33, from Derby, and Molly Berry, 70, of Buckinghamshire, faced the same charge linked to the protest near junction 1B. Both were also due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Kent Police are cracking down on these disruptive motorway protests that risk safety and cause significant commuter delays.
