Just Stop Oil Protest Ends in 40 Arrests on Holloway Road
Forty protesters, including students, were arrested during a fiery Just Stop Oil march demanding an immediate halt to new UK oil and gas projects. The rally kicked off at 4 pm on Manor Gardens Street and police swiftly swooped to make arrests by 4:40 pm.
Family History Fuels Protesters’ Fury
Among the demonstrators was 22-year-old Florrie, a recent Birmingham grad. She invoked her family’s war hero legacy: “My great-grandad fought in WW2… My great-great grandad died at the Somme. New oil and gas will destroy what they sacrificed their lives to protect. That’s why I’m marching today.”
Mechanical engineering student George Simonson, 20, echoed the urgency, saying: “This government’s plans are a death sentence for my generation. I’m ready to be arrested and go to prison if it means stopping this.”
Mass Arrests Mount as Protests Heat Up
Last week saw 186 arrests across three Just Stop Oil demos. Since October 30th, total arrests have hit around 300, with 108 court appearances logged. Three protesters are behind bars, seven are out on GPS tags, and six held on Friday await Monday court hearings.
Ready for Daily Showdown at Trafalgar Square
Just Stop Oil blasts the government’s oil and gas projects as a betrayal of past sacrifices and a threat to the future. The group vows unity and resistance: “We cannot let them divide us. Together, we are the real opposition. We will stop new oil and gas.”
From November 20th, the campaign calls on supporters to join daily midday gatherings at Trafalgar Square until the government scraps all new fossil fuel plans.
