David Frost’s Lost Celebrity Chats Unearthed in New Radio 4 Series
From Elizabeth Taylor to Muhammad Ali and The Beatles, Radio 4 is set to air eight intimate portraits of the biggest entertainers of the last 70 years.
Launching Monday, August 8, BBC Sounds will drop a ninth episode featuring Lauren Bacall along with extended cuts of every episode. This exclusive series unearths rare, personal interviews conducted by David Frost, the master interviewer of the 20th century.
Wilfred Frost Uncovers Dad’s Hidden Interviews
Following David Frost’s death in 2013, his son Wilfred embarked on a mission to recover lost conversations. Among thousands of tapes containing over ten thousand interviews, he found in-depth discussions with legends of music, film, and activism.
Wilfred reveals chats with A-listers like Elton John, The Beatles, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sammy Davis Jr., Muhammad Ali, Jane Fonda, Michael Caine, Elizabeth Taylor, and Lauren Bacall.
“It never ceases to amaze me how brilliant he was at what he did — getting the world’s most famous people to open up as if they were in the privacy of a confessional booth,” Wilfred said. “Many of these conversations have been kept private for far too long, and I am delighted to share them with the world once more.”
Behind the Scenes with the Interview Legend
Wilfred, now a broadcaster himself, offers a unique glimpse behind the curtain of his father’s interviewing genius. The series spans decades, capturing celebrities over the course of entire lives, revealing warm, intimate, and revelatory conversations.
“This is a very special set of conversations, warm, intimate, and revelatory,” said Rhian Roberts, BBC Radio 4’s Commissioning Editor. “David Frost is the absolute master of the interview; it’s a pleasure to hear him with such stellar guests.”
